Mendelbaum Cellars – Review 3/17/12
March 19th, 2012 categories: Places to Go & Things to Do
Buddy and I visited Mendelbaum Cellars for the first time on Saturday and, boy, were we impressed with the wines. Emily was our tasting assistant and figured out quickly how to direct us through the menu of wines that they offer. Buddy is a red wine drinker and tasted the Flatbed Red (Petite Sirah), Estates Tempranillo-Cabernet, Inwood Estates Cornelious Reserve and the Rubyna Red Dessert Port Style. I am typically an all white drinker so I tried the Hotsy-Totsy and the Aura Reserve Blanc but stretched into the reds as well trying the Cornelious Reserve and the Port. Buddy loved the Flatbed Red and we both were extremely impressed with the Cornelious Reserve. I’m not even a red wine drinker (don’t like the strong red initial bite) but that wine was SOOOO smooth. Not a cheap wine though at $69.50 a bottle! The Flatbed Red is only $19.99 per bottle … so we had a glass of the expensive stuff and bought the cheaper!
The atmosphere is “just” ok … There is a porch outside but you have to walk all the way around the building to get to it. Pretty easy fix if they just turned the window overlooking the porch into a doorway. Anyway, if you’re into really good wines, we highly recommend it!
